Tips to Get Your Car Ready for Winter

Get Your Car Ready for Winter | Toronto, ON

Winter in Toronto can really do a number on your vehicle. From deflated tires to dead batteries, you want to be sure to follow these tips to get your car ready for winter.

Put on the winter tires. Ice, snow, and rain are expected throughout the winter months, so you want to be sure your vehicle’s tires can handle the weather. Stop by and see us at Lexus Downtown to get your winter tires so you can get better traction on rough roads.

Be prepared. Whether the snow has buried your front bumper or you find yourself stranded on the side of the road, you need to be prepared. Pack emergency tools that will help when the temperatures drop, including a flashlight, shovel, jumper cables, ice scraper, a bag of sand, flares, and an extra set of warm clothing.

Check the battery. When the temperatures drop, so does the car battery’s ability to charge. If you’ve been waiting to get a new battery, do that now so you don’t find yourself stranded with a car that won’t start.

Fill up the fluids. Top off the fluids your car needs to help make winter easier, including windshield wiper fluid and anti-freeze. This will help your car stay in working order, no matter how cold it gets.

If you’re not sure how to best prepare your car for the chill of winter, feel free to give us a call or stop by and see us at Lexus Downtown.

Lexus Announces New Lexus LC Convertible

Lexus LC Convertible | Toronto, ON

Letting your hair down in a Lexus is about to get a lot easier. The Japanese luxury carmaker recently confirmed that it will be offering a convertible version of its flagship LC sports coupe “in the near future.”

The new Lexus LC convertible was highlighted during Britain’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in July. The brand showed off a prototype of the car wrapped up in black-and-white digital camouflage to give consumers a taste of what’s to come.

“Long, low and lean, the LC convertible will share the coupe’s athletic proportions, but project its own, distinct identity,” Lexus noted in a news release. The luxury brand went on to add that the convertible will bring “a sense of completeness” to the Lexus model lineup.

The Lexus LC convertible will be the first droptop available in the brand’s lineup since it stopped the production of the IS C in mid-2015. Before that, Lexus sold the now-discontinued SC convertible.

There’s not much information around this new convertible available at the moment, though Lexus has been hinting at this new model for years. Back in January, the premium brand previewed the new car with the LC Convertible Concept. It also showed off the 2014 LF-C2 concept with the idea of a convertible RC coupe.

Once the LC convertible becomes a reality, stay tuned for more information on how you can test-drive this exciting new model here at Lexus Downtown.

All-New 2020 Lexus RX Enhances Appeal

2020 Lexus RX | Toronto, ON

Lexus is looking to make a good thing even better. The automaker recently announced the 2020 Lexus RX, and it now offers more features and enhancements to make this top-selling luxury SUV even more appealing.

“With the new 2020 Lexus RX, we’ve taken a practically perfect luxury SUV made right here in Canada and enhanced it where it counts,” said Robert Tsang, director of Lexus in Canada.

The newest RX will take the details that have helped it become the brand’s best-selling model, and enhance them. For instance, the artisans who handcraft the SUV’s leather trim must train their manual dexterity for a minimum of six months before working on the Lexus.

This attention to detail and handcrafted luxury will come in five 2020 Lexus RX trims: RX 350, RX 350L, RX 450h, RX 450hL, and RX 350 F Sport. The standard RX powertrain will be a 3.5-litre direct-injection V6 engine, which produces 296 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque.

The hybrid 450h models will come with the same engine combined with a couple of high-torque electric motors, putting out a combined output of 308 horsepower.

Lexus will produce the RX 350 and RX 350 F Sport at the Cambridge, Ontario plant. Production is set to begin in August with the first vehicles arriving at dealerships by the fall.

Back-to-School Safe Driving Tips: How to Keep Safe This Fall

Back To School Safe Driving TIps | Toronto, ON

A new school year is on the horizon, which means it’s time to stock up on folders and notebooks, and get the kids some new backpacks. It’s also important that you review some back-to-school safe driving tips to ensure you’re staying safe out on the road.

Drive the speed limit

School zones have specific speed limits, typically lower than the normal limit. This limit is there to ensure you are driving slowly enough that you will have enough time to react should a child dart out into the street in front of you. That’s why it’s important that you drive at or below the posted school-zone speed limit.

Watch for school buses

School busses are likely a fixture during your morning commute, which is why it’s important to know how to react, should a school bus come to a stop. If you see the bus’s stop sign come out and its lights flash red, you need to make sure you stop and stay stopped until the bus moves forward. Even then, proceed cautiously in case there are children walking slowly near the road.

Listen to the crossing guard

Crossing guards work to help keep children safe as they cross the road. If there is a crossing guard at a set of traffic lights, make sure you pay attention to the guard, not the lights.

Here at Lexus Downtown, we want to ensure our community is staying safe at all times, but especially when school is back in session. Follow these tips to help create a secure environment for all.

Sail Through Summer with These Car Care Tips

Summer Car Care Tips | Toronto, ON

Summer is finally here, which means you should start thinking about how to help your car thrive in hotter temperatures. Here are some summer car care tips to keep your car running smoothly.

Complete your car’s routine maintenance. Hotter temperatures mean your car is more likely to overheat, especially if you’re driving long distances this summer. That’s why you should visit Lexus Downtown’s service department and get your car’s oil changed so it’s fresh and clean. Also, make sure your coolant system is in working order so that it’s in peak condition to keep your engine cool.

Watch your tires. When the temperature outside changes, so can your car’s tire pressure. Make sure your tires remain in the recommended tire pressure range. That will keep your car riding smoothly and reduce the risk of an accident.

Replace your windshield wipers. Summer storms are on their way, which is why it’s important to make sure that your windshield wipers are in top condition. They should be replaced every six months to a year, so if you haven’t done so in a while, now would be a good time. You should also replace your wipers if they’re streaking the windshield or if there are cracks in the rubber.

Takumi Craftsmanship Documentary Highlights Lexus Legacy

Takumi craftsmanship documentary | Toronto, ON

For many westerners, you’re considered an expert in your craft after 10,000 hours of study. In Japan, you’re not considered a master until you’ve spent 60,000 hours learning your subject — the equivalent of almost 30 years of practice.

This is the subject of a recent documentary created for Lexus by Clay Jeter, the director of Chef’s Table on Netflix. Through this documentary, which is currently available on Amazon Prime Video, we get to look into the world of the Takumi, which is the highest level of artisan in Japan.

Lexus has helped create this Takumi craftsmanship documentary to highlight the dedication that goes into becoming a master, and to ask an important question — will the Takumi way survive in a world increasingly powered by artificial intelligence?

The visually stunning 54-minute film follows four Japanese artisans who have dedicated their lives to their craft, including a traditional paper-cutting artist, an automotive master craftsman, a chef who has received two Michelin stars, and a carpenter for one of the oldest construction companies in the world.

Over the past 30 years, since Lexus’s conception, the Japanese brand has worked to ensure the concept of Takumi is incorporated into its work. That is why its vehicles have an intense attention to detail that other luxury brands don’t have.
